The viewing experience of this and The Great Train Robbery were kind of spoiled in that I viewed and disected theses films in my Visual Literacy class a couple of years ago. However A Trip to the Moon is still quite remarkable.
The sets are very intricate and detailed for their time and the editing techniques with the smoke, the fades and changes between camera cuts all speak for the brilliance of Georges Milies. The story is far more developed and longer than most films of the time, or his other movies. Overall it set a new standard for the age and did a lot for experimental film and the advancement of the art form.
